The golden tortoise beetle is unique because of its metallic gold coloring. This beetle changes color seasonally and changes color when threatened. It is basically transparent in the sense that its internal margins expand. The golden tortoise beetle has an open cardiovascular system which relies on hemolymph, and not blood. Beetles have a segmented tube-like heart which attaches to the dorsal wall of the hemocoel, the main cavity. It has ostia going down its body, which circulate the hemolymph from the hemocoel and then to the cavity nearest the head.
