The Southern Root-Knot, or Meloidogyne incognita, is a parasitic Nematoda which, unlike many parasites, infects plants, and not humans. The Southern Root-Know attacks at the roots of the plants, to consume the nutrients of the plants. Once the parasite consumes the nutrients of the plant's roots, they form objects called galls (pictured on the right). These galls are deformed roots of plants, which become tangled and smashed together. The circulatory system for this organism is identical of that C. elegans with the organism being able to diffuse nutrients, and other vital substances need to survive around its body. The parasite is also extremely microscopic, the above left picture being the Southern Root Knot as 500x magnification.
